Scarabee Film Productions was set up in 1989 by Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich. The company specializes in high-quality creative documentaries, short films and features, and works hard to maintain its position as a prominent figure in the business, both at home and abroad. The track record of Scarabee Films is impressive: SHAPE OF THE MOON by Leonard Retel Helmrich won the first-ever World Cinema Documentary Competition at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, as well as the VPRO Joris Ivens Award 2004 for best feature-length documentary at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam. Other films have won prizes at festivals in San Francisco, Nyon (Switzerland), Montreal, Bacau (Romania) and Paris. Nearly all of Scarabee's films have been selected for national and international film festivals, providing the company with a good reputation on the art film and festival circuit. Scarabee productions have been broadcast both at home (NPS, VPRO, NCRV, KRO and AVRO) and abroad: RTBF and VRT (Belgium), BBC, Eesti Television (Estonia), Arte (France/Germany), TV 7 and France 3 (France) and Television Suisse Romande (Switzerland).

There are no translations available. De documentaire 'Stand van de Maan' van Scarabeefilms draait op het NS Try Out Festival 2010. De eerste voorstelling is op 30 september om 22:30 op het treinstation van Amersfoort. "Stand van de Maan" won in 2005 de Joris Ivens Award. Het vervolg "Stand van de Sterren" gaat waarschijnlijk in premiere op het IDFA 2010.

The Dutch documentary 'Contract Hotels - Djangan Loepah! (Don't forget!)' by Hetty Naaijkens - Retel Helmrich has been awarded with a Crystal Film for over 10.000 visitors since it´s release. Director Leonard Retel Helmrich and editor Jasper Naaijkens has been invited to the Radcliffe Institute (Harvard University) to work on their projects for 1 year. Besides the further development and dissemination of Leonard's revolutionairy film style "Single Shot Cinema", they will also edit the new documentary "Position among the Stars". Furthermore they will give some lectures to the faculty of "filmstudies" at Harvard University and other institutes in Boston and Cambridge (including Massart and the Museum School of Boston).
