Scarabee Film Productions was set up in 1989 by Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich. The company specializes in high-quality creative documentaries, short films and features, and works hard to maintain its position as a prominent figure in the business, both at home and abroad. The track record of Scarabee Films is impressive: SHAPE OF THE MOON by Leonard Retel Helmrich won the first-ever World Cinema Documentary Competition at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, as well as the VPRO Joris Ivens Award 2004 for best feature-length documentary at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam. Other films have won prizes at festivals in San Francisco, Nyon (Switzerland), Montreal, Bacau (Romania) and Paris. Nearly all of Scarabee's films have been selected for national and international film festivals, providing the company with a good reputation on the art film and festival circuit. Scarabee productions have been broadcast both at home (NPS, VPRO, NCRV, KRO and AVRO) and abroad: RTBF and VRT (Belgium), BBC, Eesti Television (Estonia), Arte (France/Germany), TV 7 and France 3 (France) and Television Suisse Romande (Switzerland).

De documentaires ¡VIVAN LAS ANTIPODAS! van regisseur Victor Kossakovsky en de 3D documentaire PINA van regisseur Wim Wenders zijn tevens genomineerd in dezelfde categorie.
De European Film Awards worden gezien als de Europese tegenhanger van de Oscars. Stand van de sterren is genomineerd in de categorie EFA Documentary 2011.

There are no translations available. De Nederlandse documentaire Stand van de Sterren (Position among the Stars) van regisseur Leonard Retel Helmrich is gekwalificeerd voor de Academy Awards. De inzending is gedaan met de support van de Amerikaanse kabelzender HBO. De film werd gekozen door de Oscar selectiecommissie van HBO. HBO-2 zal de documentaire uitzenden op 28 september. Deze TV-zender heeft meer dan 28 miljoen abonnees en is internationaal bekend als producent van series als 'the Sopranos', 'the Wire' en 'Sex and the City'.

With Sundance's World Cinema Special Jury Prize for Best Documentary (POSITION AMONG THE STARS), Dutch director Leonard Retel Helmrich is the first ever filmmaker to win IDFA and Sundance twice. Back in November, he had already broken the record for winning IDFA's main prize (Best Documentary) twice, when the film picked up the Best Feature-length and Best Dutch documentaries at IDFA.
